Allentown Rescue Mission First Annual Gala
The first Inaugural "Celebrating Lives Changed" Fundraiser to Honor Local Mission's Success Stories
Event Date: 5/14/2016   Time: 5:30-9 pm
Location: Muhlenberg College, , Allentown, PA

Allentown may be nearly 100 miles away from New York City. But, when it comes to the issue of homelessness, they’re closer than many people think. Just how close will become apparent on May 14, when supporters of the Allentown Rescue Mission gather to hear New York City Mission CEO Craig Mayes, Ph.D pay tribute to the Lehigh Valley nonprofit’s remarkable work in helping men escape the heartbreak of homelessness. His presentation highlights the Allentown Rescue Mission’s first-ever “Gala Celebrating Lives Changed.

Donors and guests will experience a memorable evening filled with plenty of excitement and emotion. In addition to Mr. Mayes’ inspirational remarks, the events features both a silent and live auction, as well as a multi-course dinner that includes appetizers, entree and dessert.

Allentown Rescue Mission CEO Jim Byrnes said the concept of organizing a local gala around homelessness stemmed from numerous discussions at the Board and management levels. Leadership wanted to find a vehicle for not only raising awareness and support, but to celebrate the progress that’s being made at the Mission.

Most of the Misson’s operating revenue comes from grants, donations, and small fund-raisers.  The nonprofit receives little government supportYet demand for services continues to increase.  In 2015, staff prepared and served over 48,000 meals, while providing accommodations for 27,000 room nights.

Proceeds from the Gala “Celebrating Lives Changed” helps the Mission continue meeting those essential needs along with funding the faith-based programs that rescue, restore and rehabilitate homeless men.  A few sponsorship and volunteer opportunities and tickets remain.  For more information, interested organizations and donors are encouraged to contact the Mission at 610-740-5500 or email Wendy at  wbenedict@armpa.org.
