Point Pleasant Pennsylvania
|
| |
Lenapi Indians fished this area. In later years, river villages like Point Pleasant developed with inns and taverns to service the rough lot of rafters and canalmen who transported materials on the Delaware River and Canal. The first grist mill in Point Pleasant was built in 1748, which ground grain for the soldiers during the Revolutionary War. Point Pleasant was also a way station for the Doylestown-Frenchtown-NewYork stage. |

Safe House For Slaves Provided By The Quakers
|
| |
This is one of the original houses that was used as a safe house for slaves. The Quakers did not believe in slavery and they would hide the slaves which was illegal. Sometimes it was called an "underground railroad." When the Quakers got word that they were going to be searched for slaves, the slaves would travel to another designated safe house." Not only were slaves in danger so were the Quakers who were hiding them. This safe house is in Bucks County and the town of Richlandtown, PA. |

Ringing Rocks
|
| |
Ringing rocks park has to be one of the strangest parks in Bucks County. The main attraction is an eight-acre field of huge reddish boulders, a peculiar enough sight in itself. Odder still is the fact that many of the rocks ring like bells when struck. On a busy day at the park, you'll find most of your fellow hikers trudging toward the boulder field with hammers in hand, looking like a troop of single-minded carpenters on their way to a remote job site. No matter where you go the woods resound with the chinking metallic sound of the rocks being struck, often accompanied by peals of delighted laughter. If you want to make some rock music yourself, bring your own hammer. |
