George Sotter (1879-1953), an artist strongly identified with Bucks County, Pennsylvania, is best known for his magical winter nocturnes, scenes made Show More...even more enchanting by the blanket of snow that is a recurring motif in his work. He was also well known for his work in stained glass. In addition to a significant investigation of Sotter's nocturnal landscapes, Light and Shadow will present the various other types of landscape he produced throughout his career, and will introduce his work as a stained-glass artist, and examine the artistic exchange between the media in which he worked. Chronological and geographic in scope, the exhibition will also provide a regional context for the nocturne theme-the subject with which Sotter is most often recognized-and will include nocturne subjects by many of his Bucks County artistic contemporaries as well as some from further afield.. ...Show Less
